Sony Ericsson C510

Apparently a cup of tea more bad than good in preventing the AH1N1 flu for my old phone which completely died (drowned) as of the procedure. In conclusion I had to choose fast and I did choose the best of the worst which was the single phone with no opening parts, relatively squared buttons and almost free for my operator. Since I see the phone as a basic tool which does not need much else than the ability to make a call this is most reasonable. I will probably break it, scratch it, drop it in dirt or on the stairs so I really don’t need another expensive gadget to take care of. The result was the C510 which I hopped to work in Linux (Ubuntu 9.10 Karmik Koala) as good as it’s predecessor. Here is a short check list: (more…)

K550i sync

Updated 22-03-2008: fixed broken link.

After the tragic death of my T630 phone I have bought a new Sony Ericsson K550i to replace it. The old phone worked quite ok with linux but I was very pleased by how quick I was able to make this new one work with my Ubuntu Gutsy.

Synchronization

I managed to establish a bluetooth connection with no trouble using the same method described here using multisync.

Sony Ericsson T630 phone sync

After making the IR and bluetooth work on Feisty the next step was to sync all the contacts from my Sony Ericsson T630 phone.

This was extremely easy as I was just required to install multisync:

apt-get install multisync libmultisync-plugin-evolution libmultisync-plugin-backup libmultisync-plugin-irmc libmultisync-plugin-irmc-bluetooth

Use the bluetooth port with ubuntu

Making bluetooth work on my Dell Latitude D820 with my Sony Ericsson T630 phone was rather easy. I just needed to enable bluetooth in bios and then install the following packages:

apt-get install bluetooth gnome-bluetooth
apt-get install bluez-gnome bluez-utils

After the install I started the bluetooth-applet. A bluetooth icon appeared in the notification area and I was able to add the laptop to my phone as a bluetooth friend and send a file from the phone to the laptop.

Use the IR port with ubuntu

This is more of a fuss as I wanted to connect to my Sony Ericsson T630 phone over infrared, hopefully at some point I will be able to use it’s modem for GPRS access.

Activate the ir (COM2 – /dev/ttyS1) in bios

Install the irda-utils and openobex packages

apt-get install irda-utils obexfs obexftp openobex-apps
