Business Process Management with JBoss jBPM I am using jBPM for more than a year now and had my ups and downs with it. However the “Business Process Management with JBoss jBPM” by Matt Cumberlidge from packt was an interesting read.

What the book does is to present the problems from a business analyst point of view and as doing such it presents a lot about the actual activities which take place in order to implement a BMP while following an implementation scenario stage by stage. In fact the scenario is much more general than the actual case of the JBoss BPM implementation and this is the reason why the book can prove interesting for both a business analyst and a developer.

To the business analyst it shows the actual steps of the process including, most important, the interactions with the sponsors and the other actors involved while to the developer it shows that there is much more going on that the actual development part and by this opening a bit his perspective.

The JBoss jBPM part is about the actual implementation of the BPM system using available technologies it gives you an idea about the available tool from JBoss and makes you curious to explore more. I does not present a magical tool but rather a useful tool which can be used to implement a BPM system with little effort if not much customization is need.

As I have found using jBPM was that it can also be used and integrated as a more general workflow system where the actors are different systems and not actual people thus as a base for various systems integration.

In all I found the book interesting and consider recommending it as a light introduction to the BPM problem.
